Tongues of Fire is a Victoria based poetry collective committed to the art of spoken word/performance poetry among other forms of literature. We are diverse in background, writing style and lifestyle. As a collective we strive to make poetry more accessible, inclusive and entertaining.
TOF History
Conceived in August 2005, Tongues of Fire began as a monthly spoken
word night at the Solstice Cafe in Victoria. The night began as an open
mic and evolved to include feature performers. With the 2006/2007
season, Tongues of Fire went bi-weekly, with a heavier emphasis on
feature performers, while retaining the poetic open mic portion of the
show.
In 2006 Tongues of Fire also launched a quarterly literary publication called Sparks
with the intention of promoting written local work and encouraging
regular open micers and the general public to submit pieces of poetry
and short prose for publication.
In 2007, ToF grew up and out, with a solid audience base, solid out shows and more amazing Canadian spoken word features. ToF also put on special events such as the award-winning Poetry in the Raw and Solomon Sparrow's Electric Whale Revival.
Now in it's fourth season Tongues of Fire is going strong and still excited about promoting the poetic of all forms in Victoria.
